Team 9 was a group of soldier robots that attempted to destroy the island's core during the war. The core proved to be far too powerful for them, easily destroying the entire unit in a lopsided conflict and scattering their pieces throughout the core room. Only one of the robots, known simply as "Killer Robot", remained semi-functional, but in a dormant state. It awakens shortly after it is approached by Quote and Curly Brace, but only manages to speak for a few seconds before exploding, stunning Curly in the process.

Appearance

The portrait of the last remaining Team 9 member reveals it to have a distinctly skeletal appearance, complete with teeth and nasal bone. Its left eye glows red, while its right eye cannot be seen, likely broken due to damage it sustained while fighting the core. It has large robotic antenna-like "ears" attached to his head, very similar to the "ears" of both Quote and Curly Brace, reaffirming the fact that both of them are soldier robots.

Trivia

• The only member of Team 9 to stay functional long enough to talk bears a striking resemblance to a damaged Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Terminator from the Terminator series of movies. The Nicalis translation may be acknowledging this in their translation with the phrase, "TEAM 9 TERMINATED".
• The Tow Rope is wrapped around the arm of one of these robots and can be obtained before the fight with the core if the player has not gotten the Booster v0.8 from Professor Booster.
• One of the dead robots of Team 9 is the symbol for the song "Geothermal" on Jukebox Mode in the DSiware and 3DS+ version of Cave Story.
• In the Nintendo Switch port of Cave Story+, one of the Team 9 robots is a playable skin in two player mode.
